Restoring seat belts after an accident

After a road accident, seat belts are subjected to extreme loads, which require mandatory technical inspection and repair.

System diagnosis and disassembly

System diagnosis and disassembly

Post-accident check

After any accident, even a minor one, seat belts must be thoroughly checked. The system may lock automatically to prevent further damage.

  • Checking the seat belt lock.
  • Assessing the retraction speed.
  • Checking the SRS indicator on the dashboard.
Replacement of pre-tensioner pyrotechnic devices

Replacement of pre-tensioner pyrotechnic devices

A pretensioner is a mechanism in a seat belt assembly (usually in the reel or buckle) that uses a pyrotechnic cartridge to pull the belt tight against the person's body at the moment of impact.

A pyrotechnic device is a disposable component. Once activated, it is completely depleted and must be replaced. Even if the belt appears to be intact, its internal mechanisms require replacement.

Depending on the model, each seat belt may have several pyrotechnic devices. Usually, there are 1-3 of them.

Repair of the reel mechanism (retractor)

Repair of the reel mechanism (retractor)

The reel mechanism is the heart of the seat belt system, responsible for smooth retraction, locking in the event of a sudden jerk, and complete retraction of the belt.

Solving retraction problems

Slow retraction

This is usually caused by contamination of the mechanism and weakening of the return spring.

Complete failure

This can be caused by a broken spring, ball mechanism, or gears.

Rattling noise

Most often caused by foreign objects or wear on plastic parts.
